RextonThe SsangYong Rexton is released
in Korea in late 2001 and in Australia in April 2003. Only a few of these
vehicles sold and marketing activities were on hold until in about March 2004
the 2nd Generation was released.
The First generation Rexton was available in the two engine versions. The 2.9 litre five cylinder turbo diesel engine in the RX290, and the Mercedes-Benz licensed 3.2 litre six cylinder engine in the RX320. Both were available with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission or an Ion transmissions four-speed automatic. For the Second generation (labelled the New Rexton) and sold since mid 2004, SsangYong replaced the 2.9 Diesel for a brand new 2,7 litres the five-cylinder 3rd generation Common rail Diesel, developed in conjunction with Mercedes and Chrysler.
